Memories of Vrindavana The Land of Krishna
Photographs of Many of its Holy Sights
Stephen Knapp
This book takes us on a pilgrimage through Vrindavana, the holy land of Krishna. By including five regional maps of the area and 489 photos, we will see numerous temples, Vedic architecture, art work, holy places of Lord Krishna’s pastimes, views of festivals, and the beautiful and enchanting deities of various temples.
We start with several photos of the way Vrindavana used to look years ago, compared with what it looks like today with its numerous developments and temple renovations. The second chapter offers some historical views of when the popular Krishna-Balarama Mandir was established under the auspices of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, and when the deities were installed. This was a major event for Vrindavana at the time, and helped bring in various changes, such as its increased popularity. After that we take a tour around the town of Vrindavana and see not only its famous temples, but also views of its village life and the people as they engage in various activities.
From there we visit Mathura and see several of its holy sights that it is most known for, such as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Then we go to the most sacred place of Radha Kund where we circumambulate the small central lakes and see many of the temples and deities, and the past residences of some of its most saintly men, and how the people celebrate some of their festivals.
Other places we will see include the lovely Kusum Sarovara; the famous Govardhan Hill; Barsana, the place where Radharani grew up; Vrinda Kund; Nandagram; Ter Kadamba; Badrinatha; Gokula, where Lord Krishna displayed many childhood pastimes; Brahmanda Ghat; Dauji; Raval, where Radharani was born; the peaceful lake of Maansarovara; Bhandiravan, where Radha and Krishna were married under the auspices of Lord Brahma; and other places.
So, travel along with us to see some of the most sacred sights that many people hope to visit at least once in their lifetime, and get an idea of what it is like to see this sacred area.
